Never Bored

I'm feeling a little itch of spring, wanting to work on my patio plants, that sort of thing. Bob's been most anxious to take down the Christmas wreath of live greens. I was reluctant to let it go. It's my first wreath of real greens.

I found this arrangement on the patio table! Works for me. I get to keep my wreath a while longer.

In one of my other lives I worked for a homiletics professor in a seminary, I know, but it's true. He used to tell his students never to go in the pulpit without reading the morning newspaper. Overnight major news events happen that can make a planned sermon obsolete, and out of touch.

So it is these days. Every morning I wake with great excitement. I can hardly wait to get to my chair and begin reading all my news sources. Never have I seen the country so energized in such a good way. I was beginning to think Americans sense of patriotism had died of apathy.

Evidently the thought of losing something precious can be very energizing.  Here's a few tidbits I've come across in the last twenty-four hours.

I think conservatives fail to realize this Women's March was so much bigger than women's issues. It was a march for all marginalized people feeling the threat of losing their rights as Americans. Friday the pro-life people will march. VP Mike Pence and Kellyanne Conway are scheduled to speak.

It seems Dan Rather has come out of retirement to start a Facebook news page. It's called News and Guts.  In my distant memory I believe there was a Dan Rather scandal but I'm not sure if it affects his credibility for today.

I'm thinking we're going to see more of these kinds of news sources pop up as the White House continues its rant against news media and fake news.

Here's more information about the Swing Left web site I mentioned earlier.  There's an interesting article in The New Yorker about this new effort to assist progressives in the 2018 election.

  1. I understand #45 has asked everyone to shift working hours to later in the day and the evening, and with his overnight tweeting, the morning news is different, isn't it.

I love the Times cover and will reward them with a purchase. I just read an article about a yarn shop in TN that refuses to sell the hot pink yarn "to those disgusting women." Apparently we're not the only ones who still want to knit one for the next march. Someone politely told her that the only reason she has a shop is become woman in the past marched to help women get rights to own property and control their own money. If I can't find the yarn this weekend locally I'm buying online.

Your wreath looks great. Doesn't look the least bit Christmasy like that.

    1. I'm curious to see what the coming "Science March" will use to distinguish their marchers. Their march won't be for a few weeks yet so it may be too warm for knitted hats. Their tee-shirts come out next week I think. It would be fun if they had an item marchers could make.

    2. I'm bidding that march will be big, too, because it covers a cross section of causes where facts, science and education can come together.

  2. Rather was a good newsman -- the scandal had to do with the credibility of a news story about Boy Bush that the story producer lost her job over, too, as I recall. "...a story that alleged that Bush went AWOL during his time in the Texas Air National Guard. The Bush administration charged that the documents used as the basis for the report were inauthentic, leading to an independent investigation that ultimately concluded that the piece disregarded “fundamental journalistic principles.” The documents were not, however, ever proved to be forgeries." The facts were accurate Rather continues to state.

I long ago concluded the system manipulating the news got Rather, juast as D.T. is trying to manipulate news now only much more at stake for our country.

    1. Now I faintly remember. I suspect retired journalists are having a very hard time watching the assault on media by this White House. Perhaps more will come out of retirement and help with this unusual situation.

  3. I think Trump[ hopes people will become bored and not pay attention. It' good to see some major magazines are telling it like it is.

    1. We must do everything possible to keep the positive energy alive that we're seeing in the country tight now. Apathy has almost been our undoing. We can't let that happen.

  4. I love that this crazy administration has energized the country! Trump's latest approval rating is around 32% (depending on the source), but well south of 50%.

He is very thinned skin and in need of approval, and I am hoping that it will moderate some of his crazy ideas.

    Love your patio arrangement :-)

    1. We will never be bored as long as Trump is in office! He belongs to the Republicans. When are they going to grow some back bone and rein him in? I could never have wreaths of real greenery when we lived in Texas. I'm loving this one.

  5. I love the repurposing of the wreath. It's beautiful.

Vigilance and action are vital. Action and not just reaction.

    1. Exactly, action but not reaction. That's hard to do but we've got to be deligent in our efforts.

  6. What a great way to continue using your wreath a little longer! I don't buy real ones as they dry up and turn brown so quickly down here!

    1. That is exactly why I'm so thrilled over this one. Never could have one in Texas because they dried out too fast. I'm still waiting for you to have some winter weather.
