A Few Things

I like to find catalogs and websites that offer products to aid the elderly.  Today I came across two such sites reading Time Goes By. Check these out, you might find something handy, Elder Store, and Active Forever.

I see the Oregon Militia is recruiting in the event Hillary Clinton becomes president. The trial for the Bundy brothers occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Preserve is still going on in Portland. We're going to get a reputation as trouble makers if this nonsense keeps up.

People tend to think of Oregon as a very liberal state. It's often lumped in with those 'west coast liberal' states. Not exactly true. Eastern Oregon is not liberal. Oregon's governor is often referred to as Portland's governor because Portland votes liberal, and the population density keeps the state a blue state. Over the Cascade Mountains the population is more sparse where there's a lot of government controlled land, farms and ranches. The people there tend to be much more conservative but don't have the numbers to turn the state red.

I plan to stay on this side of the mountains hoping I don't run into any militia members. I've never thought of militias as friendly people. Aren't militias usually mad about something?

I've about moved on from the election. The polls I watch indicate Hillary will likely be the winner. Hillary doesn't need to measure the drapes in the White House, she can go right to work. I'm beginning to add the Twitter people I will follow once the election is over. I'm getting excited to see the make up of the House and Senate. I'll be watching closely who Hillary appoints to her cabinet and the institutional heads. I don't want to see repeats from Bill's days. I want all fresh faces.

I took Bob to have blood drawn this morning and saw a medical assistant there that I literally could not tell if the person was male or female. I was seated where I could discreetly watch this person going about their work. Finally, it dawned on me, what difference did it make?

I had no plans to have sex with the person, and I saw nothing that would make me uncomfortable sharing a public restroom. Why should I care?

  1. I hope Hillary wins, but I'm prepared, or not prepared, for the worst. Too many are saying they'll vote for a third candidate. That's how we ended up with Maine's current governor....

    1. Indeed, now is not the time for voter apathy. Democrats share the blame in all this mess because they problems with voter apathy. If all Democrats and Democrat leaning voters cast votes every two years like the Republicans we wouldn't be in this mess. Democrats tend to vote every 4 years. Those midterm elections are equally important.

  2. People who support Hillary or just don't want to see Trump elected can't let our guards down. Every vote matters. The bigger the margin she wins by the less trouble we'll have with the militia types. Unfortunately, I think it will be close. We have militia here, too, who are scary dudes. I think they are all paranoid.

I've seen a few people I couldn't identify them by sex. They don't bother me either other than it kind of throws you off at first, trying to figure it out.

    1. Absolutely. Democrats have yet to understand how important every vote is. It's called voter apathy. I agree that if she doesn't, go in by a wide margin she will not be viewed as having a mandate and will have an almost impossible task on her hands.

  3. I think you touched on an important topic. What will the US be like after the election. It's a divided country . somebody has to pull thinks together.

    1. Democrats and moderate thinking people have to stand up and put a stop to this nonsense but you begin that process at the voting booth. Too much new has been put on backward looking people and they're not adjusting well.

  4. I agree with Jean. EVERY vote matters. I suspect that this will be closer than we want. Complacency will put Trump in the White House. :: vomit ::

    1. Voter apathy is exactly the issue. This could have been over years ago if Democrats and Democrat leaning Independents went to the polls like Republicans but they don't, they vote every four years and let Republicans take over because they know the importance of voting every two years in the midterm elections.

  5. "Don't count your chickens....." as the saying goes -- especially this election. I think the seeds for dissension after the election have been being planted for several months, so I don't think the next four years, and maybe even longer, are going to be easy no matter who's elected, unfortunately. I agree, many of those militia groups can be a cause for concern.

    1. Both Parties are facing serious problems. The Republicans situation is glaringly obvious. Democrats, not so much. Believe me by 2020 we're going to realize the mistake of stepping aside to let the Clintons have the stage as long as they wanted it. Where are the Democrats that should be in the wings waiting to lead the Party?

  6. Locally, there was a tragic suicide the other day. A young person who had a given male name, but went by Sarah, chained herself to her bicycle and rode into a lake. My heart breaks for those who struggle with this issue. It can't be easy.

Can't wait for this election to be over. The only thing I've enjoyed about it is watching the comedians have a field day on the late night shows.

    1. Unfortunately we will just turn the page to more ugliness on November 8 I believe. If Democrats don't take a stand this will never end.

  7. Interesting view of what it must be like for you on that side of the pond as you approach the elections. From the U.K. It seems amazing that in a country of 350 million your choice boils down to a crazy mysogynist or lady with baggage. Good luck!

    1. Thanks for stopping by John. I glanced at your blog and will read it in more detail later today. I absolutely agree with your observation. That's what happens when one party is constantly worked into a frenzy with messages of hate and anger. Not all voters are looking to the future. Many only look back to what they foolishly believe were better times. Unfortunately they want to pick & choose from those times. We've had 8 years of a progressive president and those folks are having a hard time adjusting. To make matters even worse we've had a black president and now it looks likely we'll have a woman president. God forbid! Personally I love it, I'm a progressive/liberal/Democrat.

  8. The same people threatened to take out Obama eight years ago but they emboldened by Trump's rhetoric. I fear for the direction of the country at this moment. I don't want to go back to some "great" time of the past but to move ahead on a saner path toward the future.

    1. I've enjoyed every minute of the Obama administration and wish he could have gotten through even more legislation. I don't look back, I look forward. It's like America is walking the road to the future but some Americans stop and turn backward blocking the path of those moving forward.

  9. I too am concerned that the election being over may be the start of our troubles not the end. But I thought that when Obama was elected and feared the crazies who want their own form of history by any means. Jean makes a good point. Lets make a statement.

    1. The secret is in how many people vote. Voter apathy is a deadly thing. We can stop this nonsense at the poll when forward thinking people show up to vote.
