Windy Days and Knitting

I don't like it when the wind blows, it makes me nervous and wears me out. In Oregon this is the time of year we get a lot of wind. Makes it feel frigid when it's actually around 40 degrees.  I'm ready for these days to pass. Plants are being blown over on my patio and making a mess.

The wind blows worse in Kansas where they plant windbreaks of poplar trees. In Texas the sand flies when the wind blows. I don't remember the wind blowing when we lived in Louisiana. I do remember the air being so still any clothes you hung on the line looked exactly the same when you brought them in as when you hung them out. Not even enough breeze to move clothes on the clotheslines.

This is the time of year when you become tired of all your clothes but it's too soon to break out spring clothes.

Plants are looking bad but it's too early to plant new ones.

By March I will have had all I can stand of cloudy rainy days but know there are many more to come. Hard to keep motivated.

So, I'm knitting some just because I find it soothing. I don't knit in the summer so I'd better do it now.

Some projects take a long time and teach me patience.

Some go much quicker and reward me with instant gratification.

A chance to use your voice by joining AARP as they oppose repealing Obamacare. You might want to give this some thought.

There is news tonight of rumblings among Republicans about "repairing" Obamacare. That works for me. "Repair" was always the magic word. No one ever said it didn't need more work. If Republicans had "repaired" it before they voted 60 times to repeal it all this nonsense would not have happened.

This is one place where public outrage definitely makes a difference. Republicans have heard the public outcry and they are reluctant to have the repeal of Obamacare on their record. We need to send a message if they mess up Obamacare they own it. We have to keep calling the offices of elected officials and marching in the streets. It's the only voice we have. Republicans control all three branches of government.

Encouraging news:

Eyeing the House, Democrats move to hire operatives in 20 GOP-held districts. An article you should find interesting.

Liberals are the new Tea Party. There seems to be new activity in a lot of places.

  1. I've never known that wind is an issue in Oregon similar to Kansas. California is famous for their Sana Anna winds. We get wind storms from time time but they don't generally bother me unless they expect them to produce tornadoes.

I don't knit in the summer either. I've got three projects going now. I think you challenge yourself more than I do. I like to play with color blocking though.

I belong to AARP for no other reason than they are a watch dog on S.S. and Medicare.

    1. The coast has stronger winds than we have in Portland. It doesn't take a lot of wind to topple these tall fir trees across houses, cars, and streets.

  2. Oh please, don't become the new Tea Party--they are scary. Just go back to the basics of the Democratic Party as it was 20 years ago.

    1. Judy, I agree, please don't let us do to the Democratic Party what the Tea Party did to the Republican Party.

  3. Wind does take all the fun out of the cold. Leather is the only thing I have found to block it and keep me from being miserable.
I am a member of AARP and hope they keep up the good work.

    1. Fleece is the way to go here in the Pacific Northwest because of the rain. It's very warm and repels the rain.

  4. The wind makes me nervous, too, especially at night.

    Your knitting projects are beautiful!

  5. We get a lot of wind because we live on an open pasture. No windbreak. It makes me nervous, too. When I was a kid, on two separate occasions, trees fell on my house while I was in it: once during Hurricane Hazel and once during Hurricane Donna. I've never liked the wind since.
We belong to AARP. Have for years.
I've only lived in MD and VA. We get hurricanes, an occasional tornado, rain, snow, sleet, freezing rain, hail, nor'easters and the occasional (very mild) earthquake, but we get a lot of beautiful weather, too, and four distinct seasons. I mostly love it here. How cold does it get in Oregon, and how hot in the summer? Do you get much snow?
The Republicans are really getting worried about being responsible for repealing ACA. I agree that it needs repair and improvement. I'm good with that.

    1. I absolutely love living in the Pacific Northwest. It is always green and beautiful. Coming from Texas I find the Oregon temperatures heavenly. Most of the winter is in the 40-50 range. Seldom get snow but we got about 12 inches recently. Doesn't happen often and paralyzes the city when it happens. Summers are mostly in the 80s with a few 90 degree days and less than ten over 100.

I'm familiar with tornadoes and hurricanes from living in Texas, but not here. There's flooding sometimes, and a lot of the tall firs falling on houses, people, cars, and streets. This is earthquake country although I've never felt a tremor.

I think the word from Republicans now is "repair now and repeal later." No doubt they'll add it to the long list of things they want to get rid of that benefit people, things like Social Security, Civil Rights, Medicare, Medicaid and on and on the list goes.

    1. Thanks for that word. Sometimes I think people get tired of me talking about this stuff all the time but now is not the time to let up.

  7. You really keep informed about things. I get very good information from you. Now as far as spring goes, cool your jets. I don't get spring until some time in April.

    1. In Texas we had spring in April. In Oregon it's often still too cold and wet in June. Summer doesn't kick in until July.

  8. I know a man who lived in Wyoming for a while. He said that there were many things he loved about it, but he had to move because the constant wind was literally causing psychological problems that he could not deal with -- a kind of torture.

Isn't it curious that people who opposed the ACA because they do not want government to interfere with their lives remain perfectly uninterested in the government dictating what can happen in a woman's womb.

    1. It's all about self these days. Repealing ACA affects them personally. Most of them don't need an abortion so they're comfortable with bringing down the wrath of God on someone else. Lots of conservative men in that group.
