Lordy Life Is Interesting

Bob's felt better since being off his blood pressure medication. This morning he decided he wanted to walk to an REI store that's a little over a mile from where we live. We walk through a park to get there. I was sure he couldn't do it but figured he'd take the news better if he tried and failed than if I announced he couldn't do it.  It's an uphill climb to the entrance of the park about a quarter mile from where we live. He made it to the bench just inside the park and had to admit he couldn't go any further. I left him to continue my walk and picked him up on my way back. He did much better walking down hill coming back.

Even though he didn't accomplish his goal it did get him out of the house. The park was a nice place to sit while I was walking and he got to speak to some nice dogs. He did good.

I worked in a seminary for 17 years, I know that's hard to believe, but I did. The homiletics (preaching) professor told his students they should never go into the pulpit on Sunday mornings without first reading the newspaper.

I think of that these days. First thing I do in the morning is check the news. I'm quite sure Donald Trump talks in his sleep just like he does when he's awake.

It appears the pot is beginning to boil and we may be entering territory new to elections in this country. I'm a belt and suspenders kind of person, I try to be prepared for everything.

It seems to me we're very close now to having a candidate that's lost the endorsement of his party. Have we ever had a rogue, lone ranger, candidate before in an election?

What happens if he wins the popular vote? There's a lot of talk about doing away with the electoral college.  This might be an election that shows us just what the electoral college is all about. Are we sure it's antiquated? Are we sure we want to get rid of it?

Interesting stuff and it's happening by the minute. Wonder if Mr. Trump will step off center stage for the Olympics?

  1. Maybe next time Bob could go to the park bench using his walker with the seat? Build up his stamina.

That's an interesting comment about the electoral college. My biggest worry is that Trump will have a total meltdown before the election and the RNC will step in with their rules for when a candidate can't serve to put Ryan in at the last minute. He would be harder to beat and all Hillary's ads are geared to Trump.

  2. I'm not sure what can be done about a candidate like Trump. He did not run as an Independent. He was endorsed by the Republican Party and they appear to be walking away from him. He appears to be a loose cannon. Very strange.

  3. It was surprising that he got to where he did without being assessed as completely lacking in just plain common sense.

    1. I found the whole thing very hard to believe. The elected members of Congress feared for their jobs so instead of being leaders they chose to be followers. Right now that's an awkward place to be for most of them.

  4. Good for Bob for trying!
This morning at 11:00 I had had enough. I listen to a news/talk radio station with national and local news on the hour and half hour. Every news cast started with the words "Donald Trump", and what stupid thing he had said next or last or....whatever. I turned off the radio and didn't listen to anything but music until 5:30. The TV news was more of the same.
Now they are talking "intervention" for The Donald, to get him back on track. What were they thinking? He was never, and never will be, "on track". The Republicans deserve to be obliterated on Nov 8th.

    1. The GOP establishment appears to have more problems this morning. The defeat of Tea Party Rep Tim Huelskamp on Tuesday by an establishment Republican has enraged the far right and they've now declared war against all ''establishment' Republicans in the House and Senate.

  5. I'd never heard the "belt and suspenders" saying. I love it. I'll be finding a way to use it myself some day soon. I, too, can't imagine that an intervention would get Trump on track. Maybe for a couple of minutes he could be on track, but then he'd go off the rails again. I can't even begin to imagine what lies ahead. It's frightening, all of it.

    1. Perhaps 'belt and suspenders' is an old Texas saying. I've heard it all my life.

  6. It's a good sign that he is "feeling his oats". I've seen where the BP that is too low can cause fatigue, dizziness and generalized lack of energy.

The politics of today is both frightening and fascinating. It feels like I am rubber-necking while driving by a car wreck. The latest news about Trump asking an international security advisor why we are not using our nuclear weapons really scared me.

    1. This morning I sent Bob's BP report to the cardiologist. Will be interested in what he has to say.
Love the term 'rubber necking.' That's exactly how I feel. It's not my party so I should just drive on by I can't seem to help 'rubber necking.'

  7. I think that Donald may be beyond intervention. My understanding is that one has to care about the thoughts and feelings of others in order to understand how one's current behavior impacts those others. It seems to me that Donald considers himself above all that since he thinks he is so much smarter than the rest of us mere mortals. God help us.

    1. Good point Olga. It's time to recognize we are dealing with a man with serious mental disorders. If he were sane we wouldn't be talking intervention at all.

  8. Glad your hubby got out and about. The whole Donald thing has me shaking my head...

    1. Yes, I think we're all shaking our heads. Never seen anything like it. However, history tells us we've had some very unusual presidential elections. For sure we can add this one to the list.

  9. Proud of Bob for trying. If he increases his distance each time he will build up his stamina.
We are really in some interesting times aren't we? Somehow I wouldn't be a bit surprised that if he thinks he is losing, he will just walk away. He is too arrogant to handle losing. One can hope.

    1. It's so good to have Bob feeling better.

I keep thinking I need to go back in history and look at past elections. This is only one of many strange ones. The one in 2000 was the most resent one that would have made a dramatic difference for the country if it had gone the other way.

  10. I find there is nothing like a walk around the block to clear the cobwebs out of my head and lift my spirits. I'll bet Bob feels the same type of relief just getting out of the house. The park, tree, flowers, etc. all make me feel better too. A daily walk to his bench may be just the thing.

I'm very familiar with belts and suspenders but then again - I'm a Texan.

    1. Am thinking I'm going to drive Bob to park entrance. Spared that steep incline getting to the park I think he could do fairly well walking through the park. There are benches all along the way.

  11. It probably felt good to Bob to get out and about. It's good for the spirit. How nice that you have a park close by

I've had a hard time pulling myself away from the television this week. I just know Trump will go over the edge when I'm not looking. I just hope the RNC doesn't find a way to get rid of him in time to replace him with someone who could win.

    1. Yes, I plan to see to it he gets out more now that he's feeling better.

Republican rules prevent them getting rid of Trump. Can replace him only if he resigns on his own. Apart from the problems with Trump the party now has a civil war that's erupted between two factions of the party. Doubt they could come together to select another candidate.

  12. Bob is so lucky to have you taking care of him.
Happy that Bob is much better after stopping his BP medicine.

That's very brilliant of you... Not announced that Bob couldn't walk one mile, and let Bob decided when to take the bench. Driving to the park entrance sounds great. Please do keep us informed.
