Phones Annoy Me

This thing sits on a table by my chair to annoy me.  It has no respect for my privacy. I am greatly annoyed by it.

At our house the phone ringing means everything comes to a halt, you climb over furniture, walk over people, or whatever, but you must answer that ringing phone.  Bob doesn't hear so well so I'm the primary one to answer the phone.  I don't agree that the world has to stop just because the phone is ringing.

If I'm listening to a book and I see the caller ID is unknown to me I do not answer it.  That means Bob will appear by my chair in a matter of seconds to say, "Who was that?"  I then have to remove my ear buds to explain why I did not answer.  He picks the phone up then to get the number and heads off to the computer to see if he can find who called and why they called.  That annoys me beyond belief.

Our son and his wife give the phone no respect at all.  Call their number and it is highly unlikely they will answer.  The problem is they are very bad about not listening to voicemail.  That annoyed me until he finally got an iPhone.  Now I just text him and quickly get a response, problem solved.

Our daughter in Texas is a professional woman and very busy.  More times than not I call at a bad time.  Texting is the way to go with her also.  Usually on the week-end I get a phone call from her when she has some time to visit.

A sister-in-law checks on all incoming calls and I don't mind that.  I do mind that she then reports to me who was calling, what they wanted, and what she is going to do about the situation.  By that time I have forgotten what we were talking about.

By the way, do not call me on my cell phone as I have never learned to answer it.  Text messages are always welcome.  Now I just have to wait until the world catches up.

  1. You are not alone! If I have to hurry for the phone, I don't anymore. If I don't answer, they may leave a message on my voice mail. No, wait a minute, they can't leave a message, my mail box is full - has been for nearly a year. Guess the caller can call back another time and take the chance I will answer. I only know a few people who understand that four rings isn't enough time for me to answer.

  2. I'll do almost anything to avoid making a phone call. I can dread making a simple, quick call for days. Since we got Caller ID, I've learned to ignore the calls I don't want to answer. That has made life more pleasant. I have to admit, though, that I'm one to dash to the phone to answer it. I guess I learned that from my mother. Ken, however, saunters to the phone and gets there when he's good a ready. That gets to me, for some reason.

  3. Just the sound of the phone ringing both startles and annoys me no matter how low I put the ring tone. The friendly calls I get are from folks who think an hour on the phone is normal. Since I pace while I talk, it is good exercise.

  4. Hahaha. You are bad. I had a land line and a cell phone only because the landline came with the cable package and honestly I could hear better on the land line. Then cell phones improved so much that when I dropped the cable I never went back to a land line. I have my ring tones set up on my cell phone so that the six people I talk to the most have their own ring. I don't always remember whose ring it is but that will usually warn me that it is someone I want to talk to. Even with all that, I too hate the phone to ring.

  5. Our land line phone almost always rings only for nuisance calls. If we see caller ID that looks to be a nuisance call, or if we have the cable TV on and the caller ID flashes on the screen, we ignore it. About the only family member who just calls in my sister, and that annoys me. She loves to talk on the phone and I don't. She hates email and does not text. I do, and prefer that. My kids almost never call. They use texting almost exclusively, or email.
I am not a voice/phone friendly person. The younger generation understands how intrusive calling is.

  6. Caller ID is a great invention!! Text is the only reliable way I get in touch with my children. Friends my age still use e-mail. The phone is a distant third.

  7. I love Caller ID, but when I see caller Unknown it could still be a relative or whatever. My husband says to just let them leave a voicemail. But what if they don't? Sigh... Last night someone called and I answered it. The Indian sounding caller said, "Hello, this is Windows Technical Department. There is a problem with your computer. I need you to go to your computer and I will help you correct it."
I hung up. This must be the 8th time they've called even though I've chewed them up about it.

  8. We do not have a land line any more and I don't miss it one little bit!!
My daughter, Amber, mostly texts, while my daughter, Summer, mostly calls! Amber is 30 and Summer is 52! I have learned texting is more effective for need to know stuff! I still enjoy phone chats from time to time but have never been a phone call person! So your daughter lives in Texas! Do you visit her down here often?
