By the time a house reaches my age it is often referred to as a fixer-upper. That seems an adequate description of my stage in life.

Colored Pencils
Since I was a small child I have be fascinated by pencils and pens, any old pencil will do. I have a lot of mechanical pencils but still prefer a #2 pencil. There's always an abundance of pencils around me.
Then it seems I wasn't the only one who liked pencils. Adult coloring books and expensive colored pencils became the rage. Supposed to be a way to relieve stress, even called therapy.
At first I was a bit embarrassed by it all. What adult wants to be seen buying coloring books and pencils? Then I began to see some amazing art done in colored pencil. I decided that was for me, not. An artist I am not. Drawing makes me very nervous. I can't handle too much freedom.
Since Bob died I've been like a flea in a hot skillet, can't settle on anything. Then I remembered the colored pencils I'd purchased when I was going to be an artist.
I love having a colored pencil in my hand. Any pencil is soothing to me. I struggled with a reason for coloring in coloring books. What are you going to do with them? You can cut the pages out and frame them I suppose but how many coloring book pictures do you need in your home?
I've yet to figure out why an adult would want to get into coloring books and colored pencils. Makes no sense to me. I only know that when I engage in this activity I am calm. I am at peace. I go to a good space mentally. I turn on an audible book and life is good.
What am I going to do with all these coloring books and supplies? Probably pitch them but they were soothing to my soul for a time.

Coloring Books
I have to say I'm a bit confused by all the coloring books I'm seeing on display in stores these days. I thought I was through coloring when I learned to color within the lines in first grade.
Adults are such suckers. Whoever thought this one up is making a ton of money. Supposedly coloring relieves stress. Not for me, choosing colors is very stressful.
I tried coloring when it first became the rage, but frankly I felt embarrassed to be seen at my age with a coloring book. What are you suppose to do with the pictures when you finish coloring them? I never was too much into paint by number pictures and this smacks of the same to me.
I relax knitting socks. At least I have something that keeps my feet warm to show for my work. A coloring book, not so much. If I worked a book of crossword puzzles or word games I'd be able so say I'd exercised my brain, but coloring books?
I've been hearing rumors the schools are talking about not teaching cursive handwriting anymore. Will coloring be the next to go out of school curriculum?
I'm wondering if this activity is considered politically correct in church? What about committee meetings? Funerals, perhaps in drab colors? Has anyone thought of passing these out to Congress? They aren't doing anything else, perhaps they would enjoy coloring.
I don't like to knit in the summer. I needed something to do with my hands that would keep me from falling asleep when I sit down. Walking through Target I picked up this book and pencils and will give coloring another chance. Perhaps I missed something the first time around.
Have you tried coloring books? Do they fill your artistic needs? What do you do with the pictures you've colored.
