Shoes, Issa, Paul, and Blooming Socks

LIFE

Old husband has never liked new shoes. He much prefers shoes someone else has broken in. He also prefers his shoes not touch his feet, but rather just hang on his feet.  Once he locks into a favorite pair it is quite a battle to introduce another pair.
Recently Daughter took him shoe shopping for some Skechers which he really likes.
He insisted on a size 13 wide. He has them tied loose enough he can step into them, and there's about an inch of space between his heel and the back of the shoe.

His radar is not as sharp as it once was so he spends a lot of time walking on my feet! When I see him coming I begin tucking my feet under my chair, otherwise he just walks right up on my feet. I'm thinking I may need to invest in a playpen for me. Perhaps that would keep him off my feet.

POLITICS

I can think of no one in the House of Representatives I dislike as much as Darrell Issa. I've already promised myself I will donate to the campaign of anybody who opposes him in 2018.
Darrell Issa (R-CA)
Now he's up and done something I support. Is it enough to change my mind, no?

Rand Paul (R-KY)

I've always considered Senator Paul to be a loose cannon in the Senate. He always bounces off the wall you least expect. In my opinion, this man does not serve us well.

KNITTING

I finished the 50% mohair socks. I love knitting hand spun yarns but I don't often get the chance with sock yarn. I don't spin, and most hand spun yarns do not contain nylon, and often are too thick for socks.

I soaked these for a bit in a Eucalan wash, squeezed them out good, patted them out to shape on the bathroom counter and threw them over the shower rod to dry. It's amazing what that does for hand spun yarn. The Eucalan softens the toughest of yarns. The blocking process causes the yarn to 'bloom' and fill in the space between stitches, and the mohair added a little halo. Makes my heart sing to block hand spun yarn.

  1. You do lots of work on the political scene and come up with well supported conclusions. people like you are needed.

    1. I have the time to read and research, many do not. I figure if I can pass on some of the information I unearth perhaps it will be helpful to some body.

  2. The yarn I bought for the shawl has to be hand blocked after finishing up. I've never used yarn like that before. Do you have to block it every time it gets wet or is the first time enough?

When I heard Ron Paul say that I couldn't believe he actually said it! They spent so much time and money investigating Hillary but they can't spend any time investigating Russian influence of our elected officials?

Is that first shoe photo actually Bob's shoes? If so, those are dangerous to wear as are shoes that are too big. To each his own, I guess.

    1. Regarding the shoes, yep, those are his, on the way to the trash. I also thing the way he wears his shoes is dangerous but so far my message has not been received.

Your knitted shawl will need to be blocked every time it's washed. Some people do not block garter stitch pieces. Garter stitch stretches badly when wet. I don't soak my garter stitch pieces but rather lay them out and spray them good. I happen to think all knitting benefits from some kind of blocking.

I was pretty appalled myself at Rand Paul's statement. I'm seldom impressed with him, and for sure I don't want him doing eye surgery on me.

  3. Linda you are hilarious! Love the playpen comment. My hubby has a penchant for never untying his sneakers. He leaves them tied and slides his feet in and out. Drives me batty :-)

    1. It's like I have magnets on my feet that draws him to me. If you don't like tie shoes then don't buy tie shoes.

    2. For people who don't like to or can't tie shoes they need Elastic No Tie Locking Shoelaces - very common for running shoes and sneakers and the disabled. Bought them for my husband who only had use of one arm but I started using them because they're so much quicker than tying shoes and they never come untied.

  4. Your old husband stories make me laugh. I hope you can laugh too.
Too big shoes cause blisters. Bob must not walk that much.

    1. No, walking is not his thing. If you don't laugh at these kind of things you wind up crying. Believe me, it's better to laugh.

  5. Size 13? Louis Dean wears a size 13! Not always an easy size to find but he trusts me to buy for him! I found Dr. Scholls at Walmart and he loves them! Says his large size gives him a firm foundation!

    1. I'll have to check out what Dr. Scholls has but we don't live near a Walmart. Yes, I would agree they do have a firm foundation. I don't know about LD but Bob is as solid footed as a mountain goat.

  6. Gonna check out the no tie shoelaces! I always thought Rand Paul's elevator didn't go all the way to the top! As for your love of socks...I've recently started making jewelry and I love it too! It's just something I do strictly for fun. You have to wonder what some of the Republicans REALLY think of Trump, but lack the courage to say because of their never ending quest to be re-elected with all those perks.

    1. I made jewelry for a little while. About the only craft I've found that I really do not like is quilting. I admire other people's work but have no desire to quilt myself. Republicans are very fractured right now. Hard to tell much about them. Going to be very hard to repair their party.

  7. The man certainly does have his quirks.

So Republicans are infallible now? Power has clearly gone to some heads.

Your socks look great. I prefer to knot hats because they are easier and so much more forgiving.

    1. My daughter is a hat knitter for exactly that reason, more forgiving. I don't knit hats because I have more than I'll wear in a lifetime that daughter knit for me.

It's extremely interesting to watch Republicans right now. I'm really enjoying it. I'm so glad to be a Democrat. I think the Republican party is going to be extremely hard to repair.

  8. Goodness, it is like he is wearing clown shoes. Don't know how he can be stable in such loose shoes but I guess he is use to it. Keep your toes tucked.

    1. He had a pair one time that struck fear in my heart, they were big, bulky, and he had little control of them. I insisted he get rid of those. I long for a place to set my chair where I don't have to be on alert that he might walk by and walk on my feet.

  9. OH is going to shuffle right out of his over sized shoes one day and fall on his nose! Did you make the socks for O.H.?
