Nobody Loves Me

I should not be blogging. I apparently do not have the same interests as most blog readers. I've never figured out what causes readers to visit a blog and comment.

I've tried the following subjects:
Politics
Knitting
Genealogy
Old Husbands
Digital Devices

Politics
People are sick of politics. Aren't we all? Okay, I'll try to give it a rest but I won't guarantee how long that will last. Civil rights, human rights, voters rights, religious freedom, and separation of church and state are my passions. I probably won't be able to remain quiet on those subjects.

Knitting
This subject never took off. I guess more people don't knit than do knit. Who wants to read about knitting if you don't knit?

Besides that, I seldom knit anything but socks. Even fewer people knit socks. I'm passionate about socks and could look at sock photos all day. See how long it takes you to get bored with sock photos.

That's enough, you get my point.

Genealogy
I have a lot of pictures of dead ancestors. Some are buried under rocks, some in cemeteries, some died it jails, they're quite a group. I've never found anybody else's family as interesting as my own. I've never found it to be a subject that draws readers or comments.

Old Husbands
I lost a reader over this one. She wanted me to stop blogging about my old husband. Said everybody has problems and I needed to stop complaining.  So much for the subject of old husbands.

Digital Devices
That's no longer a blockbuster. Everybody has them. Yes, I'm as addicted as everybody else but there's nothing new to write about on that subject.

My day to day life is pretty boring. I stay home and take care of an old husband. I'm even bored with my life why would other people find it interesting?

I don't blog as a way of journaling. I never go back and read past posts. There must be a reason I do this but darned if I know why.

Why do you blog?

  1. I can't believe someone told you to quit blogging about your "old husband!" It's your blog and YOUR life, not hers. You're not "complaining" when you give others a window into what your life is like. Some of us will like that window, others will pass on by. For example, I'm fascinated that your are fascinated by making socks. What the heck do you do with so many socks? You can't possibility wear them all. And can you make me a pair of x-large in purples and pink? But I like the mix of topics you write about...all of them from caring for your husband to politics and everything in between. That's life.

As to why I blog? I've kept a diary since I was a kid. Blogging is a natural extension of that with the side benefit that sometimes something I write brings in comments that I enjoy and/or will get a conversation going or make me look at something differently. I suspect that your blog is also an attempt to bring the outside world into your life because you are more housebound than you'd like to be.

  3. Your intelligent and pithy commentaries about politics, family and everyday life makes your blog one of the most interesting ones around.

  4. I love reading what you write, but I don't often comment. Keep telling us about your old husband. There are others of us with those, we sympathize and understand, and we need ideas!

As to my own blogging...I do it for me. That's all. I love to tell my stories. If no one reads them, well. so be it, but I will keep writing. My writing keeps me sane. Well, helps keep from being any more crazy.

  5. I enjoy your blog very much. I agree with Jean's comments except for the sock knitting.. Being a passionate sock knitter myself, I totally get why you keep knitting them. Keep doing what you are doing. Anybody who doesn't like your choice of topics can go elsewhere.

  6. You don't complain about your husband. Actually, you're pretty matter-of-fact (my opinion) and informative about your experiences with him. If your reader was bored by your content, all she had to do was turn the dial... which she apparently did.

Those are pretty awesome socks. :)

  7. I read your blog but don't comment. I have a husband that is getting old and I get a lot from reading your blog. Everyone in my family is an artist, creates spectacular quilts, does music or have some other really creative skill. I can do computers and be a great audience. I tried knitting and we don't really want to go there. but I do love seeing what others do.

  8. Well, I'm happy that you blog. You have important things to say about many issues. You make people think about things. Why do you blog? I don't know and it doesn't matter. You write consistently good posts. So there! Keep on blogging.

  10. Why do I blog? Well, I started out sharing travels with my family. Then i picked up other followers, and began to share blogging with them. My family hardly ever comments, but the good friends I have made through blogging feel like a community to me. I like that. And I blog to share my photographs, and my gardening, and travels, and whatever.
When I see a new post from you I think, "Oh good!" You always have something interesting to say. I don't knit and I don't care about knitting, but i care that you like it, and socks. My husband is not as difficult as yours, due to the aging process, but I like how you write about him and your relationship. I am always challenged by your political posts, and have learned from you.
Your humor and intelligence and inquiring mind are a joy to me.

  11. I read your blog! While I don't comment on the political ones - you already know that I am a Christ follower and an evangelical AND a conservative AND a Trump supporter - and although I know you have issues with all of these - you still love me and I absolutely love you!
I do comment on the other subject posts and always on your 'old husband' posts since I have one of my own. Your comments and friendship through our blogs and Facebook mean a great deal to meal. We may be poles apart in many areas but we meet up with each other heart to heart.
You are an amazing lady and I'm so happy we are friends! Please keep blogging!

  12. Hi Linda. It's an important question (why do we blog). The main reason I blog is because it helps me keep my sanity. Even if no one read my blog, the process of writing about my situation helps me to work through a lot of what I am feeling. I find it very therapeutic for me. I also blog because I hope that maybe someone in a similar situation will perhaps learn from or feel understood by my words.

I have a very small readership, so it is not the numbers that keeps me going.

I enjoy your blog, especially when you blog about your husband and his health (I relate!). I love politics, but to tell you the truth, in my current situation there is not a lot I can do, except vote, observe and write letters.

I hope you keep blogging Linda. Your writing skills are excellent and I enjoy reading what you have written.

    1. Carole, I love what you said in your first paragraph about why you blog. Reading it, I realize that's why I write, too.

  13. I think you can see from the above comments that your pretty much should keep on blogging. A blog is a personal thing for each of us. Sometimes it is a place to vent our spleens. offer information, share a passion, record an event, share a chuckle, share a tear or seek information. If the focus of the blog is narrow it is a good chance the response will be also for it will attract like minded individuals.
To paraphrase the old song, "It's my blog and I'll blog what I want to." Do what makes you happy, not what elicits comments and they will come.

  14. Hi please keep blogging as it gives those of us outside of the USA an
insight into America we don't get from the mainstream media.
Jessica in Scotland...............PS you are also very funny and kind keep it going.

  15. I'm late here in adding my two cents, but like Carole, I began reading because I've been seeing changes in my husband and it helps to learn how other people cope.
I also enjoy reading good writing and happen to agree with you political views. Keep going!

  16. I missed you when you were not blogging and was very happy when you started up again. I always learn something and while I may not be so passionate about socks, for example, I appreciate being able to get a glimpse of another person's interests and how it fits into a busy life.

As far as sharing about your husband -- complaining does not seem at all what you are doing. I know there are many who can and do benefit from the experiences you share.

I think I blog because I have something to say even if it is only to clarify thoughts to myself. It is nice to have someone read and comment, of course, but I don't think having an audience is what it is about.

  17. You "do this" because old husband's never listen to a word we say!!! You do this to find like minded people that understand exactly how you feel about things and some that will even disagree with you--which at least means they are paying attention. You do this because there is a lonely woman writing this that finds reading others blogs makes her life a bit more interesting. So you just keep on doing this. Please?

  18. I started blogging originally by accidentally publishing when I was experimenting using Blogger while simultaneously learning to use a computer -- while I decided whether or not I might want to blog in the future. So, I just kept going, explaining I was writing whatever interested me at any time that others would be welcomed to read and comment on if they wanted. Now, I've become genuinely interested in others I've "met" on my blog and others, so I continue.

  19. I too love your blog. I follow quite a few, some I see here. Yours is one of my favorites. I do think it's like journaling and a wonderful way to connect with people and even make friends. Everyday when I see my blogs (note I call them "my" ) come in through email, it's like getting a letter from a friend. Please keep blogging!
