Fired Up

I went to bed with a heavy heart last night but am recovering this morning as I read Twitter and news sources.

Where we are today is where Republicans were at this time in 2009 after the election of President Obama. Out of the unrest of that time rose the "Tea Party," and the take-over of the House and Senate in 2010 with right wing Republicans. We can do this. Now is not the time to grow weary. Keep working and keep your eyes on 2018!

Last year I took some time to study the Republican Party. It seems today there's no place for moderate Republicans, they've become Independents.

What's left of the Party is split into several factions, all about monetary gains, property, big business, and power. The faction of the party that was about people is gone.

Once people were out of the picture the Party became harsh and power driven. They're a suspicious and paranoid people these days.

It seems to me Independents are now composed of conservative Democrats and moderate Republicans. Perhaps its time for them to stop swinging in the wind and unite. I'm open to a new party, though to be honest, I don't see that happening.

Matthew Dowd is a person I follow on Twitter. You may catch him on TV as he's on some of the panels there, ABC, I believe. He's been a Democrat, he's been a Republican, he's now an Independent. Most of the time I like what he has to say on Twitter. He's considering running as an Independent in Texas to replace Senator Ted Cruz in 2018. I would certainly support that.

He has started something called "Listen To Us" following through on his belief both political parties are broken and we're going to need new parties.  I encourage you to read what he has to say.

Through it all I usually find something to make me smile. This morning it was from the blog "Murmurs." You seriously need to read it.

For me it's always about
Civil Rights, Human Rights, Voting Rights & Religious Freedom.
Since I'm seeing no thought of those issues in the Republican Party these days I must work through the Democratic Party.

  1. I like your list at the end. I would had Privacy Rights which includes a woman's right to choose.

I really want Ted Cruz knocked down, too. Him, Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell.

    1. Stick privacy rights in with human rights. The list quickly gets longer than my brain can remember.
Nobody bugs me as bad as Darrell Issa and Ted Cruz. Ryan and McConnell run a close second though.

  2. I like your list, too, but my action today is for Education. We actually have a chance to reject Betsy DeVos. We need one more Republican vote. Today Tom and I emailed every Republican Senator.

    1. Sometimes you just have to take some time to focus and work on what's of most interest to you. The Education Secretary and Attorny General are choices they had to work hard to find candidates that bad.

  3. I think the Republican party will be this way for a long time and this may be it's undoing. I still think a third option is necessary.

    1. It is entirely possible another party will need to rise out of the ashes and sideline the current Republican Party. Leave them to stand in a circle and shoot each other.

  4. I do take comfort in the fact that his actual rabid base is actually small. It was apathy that elected him. Now we need to heed the wake-up call.

    1. Yes, he sparked a fire in one element of our society. Unintentionally he may have sparked a very different fire in another element of our society. We can only hope so. Apathy is our biggest enemy.

  5. I've been crushing on Matthew Dowd for quite a while. I love listening to his take on politics.

    1. I'm right taken with him myself. Would like to see him in the senate. I'd just like more Independents to run for office. They don't necessarily have to form another party. That's a sizable group of people setting outside the two parties and very few run for office. He says a Democrat in Texas will never win against Ted Cruz but thinks he can outst him by running as an Independent. Whatever, I just want Ted Cruz out of the Senate.
