A Mix of Items

I enjoy finding new blogs to read. Reading Judy's blog I learned about a blog called

Important Information

The House Freedom Caucus is a group you need to be aware of, that also bears watching. This group is the rightest of the right, Tea Party right. They contributed greatly to bringing down Speaker John  Boehner. Speaker Paul Ryan is the result of that tempest in a teapot.

I'd suggest you click the link above and scroll down to the list of members. See if any are in your state, and use your time, money, and any resources available to you, to defeat these people in 2018.

Keep in Mind

When you listen to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell speak, remember he is married to one of President Trump's cabinet appointees. Elaine Chao is the new Secretary of Transportation. As far as I know she's a good appointment, BUT, what impact will this situation have on Leader McConnell being fair and impartial about the Trump administration?

Take a look at this group. They're organizing Town Halls to get the message out to Congress they oppose repealing the Affordable Care Act.  If your congress person has opted out of a Town Hall meeting while Congress is on vacation, you are encouraged to organize one yourself in your community and invite your Congress Person to attend. Some groups are doing that and using a life size cardboard figure of their missing Congress person. They're making pictures and will be posting on social media.

I don't know about you but I'm concerned reporters and journalists may soon, if not already, be risking their lives when they cover a Trump event.

Today a Trump rally is planned for Florida. He's feeling the need to bring his supporters back together to feel the love he felt from them during the campaign.

The event is apparently to be paid out of his campaign funds. First President I've known to continue campaigning once the campaign is over.

These events may be even more volatile now than they were before the election.

  1. The day of his swearing in as president, the Trump lawyers filed paperwork for him to run for president in 2020. This allows him to keep taking in money.

My representative is a member of the HFC and I've seen the results of the Town Hall project at work in my district. He's had to keep changing the venue for his town halls to bigger and bigger places because of those apposing him.

Trump's vilifying the press is dangerous in more ways than one. He's unhinged!

    1. Oh dear, does this mean we're going to be subjected to campaign rallies as long as he's in office. Very weird.

I'm glad to see you've been able to keep up with a real Town Hall. The ones in Oregon appear to be pretty friendly, unlike many across the country.

Our only hope is to keep the fire alive in Democrats.

    1. Trying to discipline myself not to rant and rave. Better to post information people can use in making choices. Much easier to rant and rave.

  3. No Washington State Reps in the Freedom coalition. But we do have Republican congressmen and women and they are refusing to hold town halls. Demonstrations are being organized at their offices.

    1. Very good. It will be interesting to see the reports of these Town Halls across the country.

  4. I had a friend visiting and we did all the touristy things during the day, then binged on The Crown in the evening. A whole week of not paying attention to any news! And you know, turning it back on yesterday...like watching a soap opera where you can miss months at a time and still pick up the story line wen you next tune in.

    1. Very true. It's necessary to take a break from time to time but equally necessary to return to the work of preserving democracy.

Trump is out of reach for most of us. All we can do is watch in horror and remember the legal people are working around the clock on removing him from office. Things move very slowly in the courts. I think it's the end of April before these suits begin to kick in and require his side to respond. For all the noise he's making, and all the noise around him he's actually accomplished very little at this point in time except to prevent Congress from accomplishing anything.

The political polarization in this country will not be solved by who screams the loudest, or hand to hand combat. Democrats must form a party that's attractive to voters. They must make their work public in communities across the country all the time. No longer can we do politics around election cycles.

For today Democrats have no avenue but to protest. Democrats in Congress do not have the votes to do anything but make noise, a lot of noise, focusing attention on the bad that Republicans want to accomplish.

In spite of Republicans saying protests accomplish nothing repealing ACA tells a different story. Republicans are currently stymied. Protests in their states and districts is making a difference. We must keep up the pressure.
