A Face Says A Lot

It appears Obama is having a lot more fun than the rest of us these days.
I enjoyed these photos from Cosmopolitan.

I admit I find President Trump jarring.
I much prefer the face of Former President Obama.

One of these men is very uncomfortable in his own skin and it is not Obama.

The face of Steve Bannon frightens me.

So much for me and my work as a political activist. I just read that a march will happen this evening in my town, Hillsboro, Oregon, to have Hillsboro declared a Sanctuary City. I paused and read about it. I can't imagine a safer place to march, I could easily walk the distance, BUT it is pouring rain today. The march is designed to meet during the time the city council is in session so that means it will be dark. I can't imagine the decision being anything but approval. I wonder if these marchers are having withdrawal pains from the Women's March and just feel the need to march. I think I'll pass on this one.

I know the people annoyed by these marches are right when they say if they don't result in some serious evidence of activism the marches will count for nothing. I agree with that, and it always gives me a little heartburn that it could happen. However, I have to say I've never seen so much political activity developing. The Internet has allowed groups to form and receive donations that would not have been possible twenty years ago.

Some groups that I consider to be stable, not here today and gone tomorrow groups, are forming all over the country. It's like these groups had been planned and ready to launch should the need arise and now it appears that's happening. There are all kinds of legal groups out there ready to hold this administration accountable, also groups of ethicists, as well as groups to get people registered to vote. I'm encouraged that it does not appear interest is waning.

  1. I love that Obama is getting a relaxing vacation. He deserves it because he's going to be busy when it's over and we can have him back into public life....sort of.

I don't get the redness on Bannon's nose. Does he really look like that and if not are they trying to suggest he's doing coke? Either way he's a scary guy. I hope Saturday Night Live keeps on suggesting that he's really running the White House because that will rub the wrong way with #45.

    1. I can hardly wait to begin seeing photos of the Obamas again and reading about them.

Steve Bannon always looks like he needs a shave, a bath, and his hair shampooed. He appears to have sores near his hairline. The red nose is a mystery but worthy of noting. I keep watching to see if any explanation appears anywhere but haven't seen anything.

  2. People are going to have to be in this one for the long haul. Trump does not get reality very well.

    1. If the justice department can remain uncompromised I think we can make it. My concern is for people's rights. If my main interest were foreign affairs I would be concerned. If the economy were my concern I'd be scared to death. I didn't think it could get worse than the Bush administration but I was wrong.

  3. Obama certainly looks like he can finally relax a little before he gets back to work. Bannon is absolutely terrifying! They say he is the great manipulator and the scary mind behind the throne.

    1. I smile every time I look at Obama's picture. The difference in the two men is stark. Obama is an optimist, the encourager, the comforter, calm, a thinker, cautious, and respectful. Trump is a pessimist, full of anger and wants to fight somebody all the time and he seeks revenge. Bannon is frightening. I have to keep telling myself there will be a way to save the country from this man. It seems unlikely Republican senators will do anything. With Sessions ias AG he would try to block any efforts by the Justice Department. In 2018 if Democrats win back the House it will be helpful. Right now Democrats can't do a thing, nothing. We must work hard to get out the vote in 2018.

  4. I love it that Barak Obama is having fun, but I want him to get back to Washington and start grooming our next set of progressive politicians, and to work with Eric Holder on gerrymandering and voter rights.
I like your list. Me too!

  5. Another vacation? Isn't that all he did for the past eight years? (Sorry, sarcastic -- I am working on it)

The Tweeter in Chief seems to have so much trouble with his non-majority win, but as far as I know no one voted for Bannon. Yet, here is is taking on the role of president with no mandate whatsoever. ("No puppet, no puppet, you're the puppet.") How I wish I could get those words out of my head.

I marched and last Saturday I went to a seminar, "Make Democracy Legal Again." It was focused on a constitutional amendment -- Currently House Joint Resolution 48 -- which seeks to both get big corporate money influence out of politics and declare the nonpersonhood of corporations. While that was the focus, in small group discussions, we discussed the need to stay focused. One way to do that and keep momentum going would be for everyone to pick the cause most important to them and find an organization that is working to achieve that particular outcome. I had, for a long time, made all my $$ contributions to Planned Parenthood. With so many areas of life under threat right now, it is not difficult to find a cause.

    1. Wow, do I ever thank you for this comment. I'd been struggling with where to focus my funds and support. There are so many good organizations it's hard to choose. That's a good problem. I knew instantly I would choose CITIZENS UNITED for Separation of Church and State, and a new voting rights group called LET AMERICA VOTE.

    2. I meant to say AMERICANS UNITED, not Citizens United.

  6. Obama looks relaxed. I guess it's a relief but also an adjustment after leaving the presidency behind. Same goes for the VP position. They can suddenly do things again that they were not allowed to do while holding those positions. I heard that Joe Biden couldn't wait to be able to drive again.
Bannon is getting a lot of publicity.

    1. I love Joe Biden. He's now set up a foundation to support issues that are dear to him. One issue will of course be cancer research. He plans to remain busy and I hope we get to see a lot more of him. He's a good guy.

We must never take our eyes off the men surrounding President Trump. He can appoint staff without senate approval. In my opinion, he's appointed two very dangerous me, Steve Bannon and General Flynn.
