Stuff You Won't Believe

Last Cabinet nominee voted down? John Tower in 1989. Before Tower? 1959. So only 1 rejection over the last 57 years. Only six in US history.  (Phillippe Reines on Twitter 1/23/17)

It is not my desire to see President Trump removed from office. In my opinion he's the best thing that's happened to Democrats, and voters in general. Perhaps now some of the Independents will seek office. The more protest action we see the better it is for democracy.

It seems like all this happened a long time ago but not so, less than a week has passed. All things in government take time. Lawsuits were already prepared and ready to file on Monday morning, and will continue to be filed.

We went from eight years of no scandals with the Obama administration to scandals by firehose with this administration and that will only increase. This is a very undisciplined group in the White House.

Most of what he's "signing" now has no teeth, and will never come to pass. Besides, tomorrow they may back track on it. Everything depends on ratings. The country is not going to hell in a hand basket today but it remains of great importance that we continue to sound the alarm.

We need to remember that with any Republican administration we would be fighting these same battles, civil rights, human rights, voter rights, gun control, religious freedom etc.

Scientists are now planning a March on Washington. Wonder what color hats they'll choose? Act 3 by Olga said "The pink hats served a vital function. If not for them, it is entirely likely that the aerial photos of the march would have been passed off as the inauguration crowd."

"even, those registered to vote who are dead (and many for a long time). Depending on results, we will strengthen up voting procedures! @realDonaldTrump 1/25/17, 4:13 AM

This kind of talk encourages voter suppression, and is a threat to voting rights in America. No evidence of voter fraud exists. It's been researched for years. Interesting that his Press Secretary now says they will only investigate states where he lost. He may be just a little upset over this popular vote count, you think?

  1. I wish I could be as laded back about the current administration as you are and how this will all work out in the end. For me personally, I don't believe we can normalize all the stuff he's doing by not reacting to things like his blackout gag order of the EPA, his attempts to suppress the press, his naming FOX as the only "real" news while he sat in the Oval Office (first thing Hitler did), resuming the Keystone pipe line, his sullying because the woman's march spoiled his first day on the job. I could go on and on. That said, Pence scares me, too, but I think Pence and Ryan already have more power than anyone in their positions have had in the past because they can push papers in front of him to sign and Mr. Trump will never read what he is signing. I hate what is happening to our country!

    1. I can't react to everything, there's too much. I may fear Mike Pense, Paul Ryan, and Mitch McConnell more than I fear Trump. I have hope this will work out in time if people continue to protest and voice their opposition. We're cooked if we slip back into apathy. I have hope Democrats will refresh the faces of the Democratic Party over the next four years and have a good bench of candidates for 2020. I have hope Independents will quit swinging in the wind and run for offices at the local and state levels, as well as Congress. I don't have a lot of hope for the Republican Party. They're split into too many factions, plus they have Trump to deal with. We may need Trump to keep the country agitated over the next four years. We can't afford for all this passion to slip away.

    2. You make great points. Maybe the cream will come up to the top during the next four years. I think Nicki Haley for the Republicans is one I respect and there are some from the other side of the aisle.

  2. As you say this guy is unpredictable. He may change his mind tomorrow. The things he's signing have to be approved somewhere else. It will b fun to watch this buffoon.

    1. I just hope he keeps the voters agitated enough to keep the passion to defeat him in 2020 and his Republican Party in 2018. Who is he kidding about building a wall against Mexico. America is not going to pay for that wall anymore tha Mexico will. I want the Republican Party to have to own this guy. He belongs to them and I want them to be constantly reminded of it.

  3. It's interesting reading your take on this and the exchange in the other comments. Once again last night I said I would not react to everything, and then this morning I woke up to more appalling news. Today we sent letters to the White House in support of the ACA. We do need to continue to protest. Then I get stuff like from my nephew, with a cartoon of a chicken and something about the sky falling. No, the sky is not falling but the dark clouds are gathering.

    1. Major difference in your situation and mine. I have no family contact with Trump supporters. I unfollowed all the Texas family on Facebook months ago. Bob still follows them & reports any news to me. Only one friend in Texas that supported Trump but we've agreed to disagree so it's not a problem. Our Susan lives in Texas and ,like you, is having a very hard time with all the stuff her coworkers are posting on Facebook. She went to dentist this morning where FOX news was playing in her treatment room. She asked them to change it. I don't have an answer. I just know I get more fascinated with the situation by the minute, and more convinced we must do everything we can to keep this passion alive. If it wavers we're cooked. America will live under authoritarian rule.

  4. Dark clouds are gathering indeed! The thing I fear is that he'll eventually muffle the press and then we'll be in the dark and he and his cronies can do whatever they want. This all happened because one: the democrats ran the wrong person and two: there are a bunch of uneducated, bible thumpers, and people stuck in the past that fear change and poor whites who through ignorance, believe their savior has come. It is a truly scary situation.

    1. I agree with everything you said. Now we're in a real mess. I believe, and certainly hope, Democrats have now had a severe enough jolt to take action. The Clintons held the stage far too long. I have reason to think Obama has been jolted into action. I fully expect him to spring into action when he returns from his vacation. Only now that the Clintons are no longer holding center stage can he refresh the Party. He's already appointed a team of lawyers to take on voting rights, gerrymandering, and redistricting. The younger people who worked with him through the years are passionate to save the Party. There's a lot of work to be done before 2018 and 2020 but I believe it can happen.

  5. I do agree that the election was meant to be a wake up call. I try to have compassion because the man is so demonstrably mentally ill. I wish his inner circle would tell him that the presidential race is never a popularity contest in the sense of a reality TV show, that reasoned dissent is a vital and time honored part of Democracy.

    1. Compassion for the mentally ill, yes. However, it is no act of compassion to have them serving in the office of President. I fear his staff much more than I fear his cabinet choices. He's appointed some seriously bad actors to whisper in his ear. This President enjoys fighting and he sets up a fight over everything he does. That said, we need him to remain in office as long as possible because Americans need to understand this man belongs to the Republicans. I want them to be forced to own him. They need to rein him in. The problem is Republicans are so splintered they have no leader. They are a bitter and angry people. That produces no good.

  6. I hadn't heard about the scientists marching on D.C.
That's funny about the pink hats preventing photos of the march being passed off as the inauguration crowd.

    1. Yes, and I think it may well be a large march. In only about three days about a 150K have signed up. Cities and towns around the country and even the world are saying they plan to join the march. They haven't released a firm date but perhaps April. Takes a while to plan a large march. They need to come up with a colored hat, or some way the crowd can be identified, to keep the White House from passing the photos off as their own.

  7. I keep trying to stay calm but very aware of all that's happening. Couldn't agree more that impt for all to keep motivated for 2018 & 2020. Think really have to be concerned muzzling the Press is high on the D.T. agenda with coverting all to Fox -- Murdoch's own with his aspiration to control media. He's going after satellite in Grt Britain again -- is friend of D.T. & they dined in Scotland. -- all this behind the scenes as is the continuing influence of friend Roger Ailes.
