Insanity Reigns

"Mr Trump. Steve Job's biological father's name was Abdulfattah Jandali. He came to the US as a student. He was from Homs, Syria." -Thomas L. Friedman on Twitter 1/28/17

With every good intention I set about to put my life in order this morning. I took a nice walk to clear my head of the cobwebs (politics). I took all the yarn out of my closet and laid it on the bed to organize.  All was well until I checked my iPad, and it was all over, I was again glued to all the news.

We're now something like nine days into this administration. I thought by this time I'd be able to go on with my life but not so. It's like a firehose spewing out crazy things. Congress is having a hard time finding their voice but last I checked there may be hope.

Don't tell me people taking to the streets and flooding Congress with messages of protest is not working.

I graduated in 1960 and lived in a little town of 300 in Texas. I missed all the chaos of that time. When it came time to protest the Vietnam War I was probably in support of LBJ.

Now that I'm 74 I'm finding some of these protests interesting and some are beginning to call to me to participate.  I am concerned though about this one on immigration. I worry that it could easily turn violent.

The March for Science seems to be coming along nicely. I was amused last night reading about their idea to come up with a "Thinking Cap" for knitters to knit.

To this one I said, "no," far too much i-cord for my liking. If, however, you would like to knit one I went to Ravelry.com and typed in 'Thinking Cap' for the pattern. This one, and another one like it, popped right up so you're free to knit your heart out.

One comment was not to make them pink like the 'pussyhats' but perhaps grey. I don't much like grey. I don't think thousands of grey hats will make a statement.  Time will tell what they choose but I doubt it will be this pattern.

If you enjoy Garrison Keillor you might enjoy this article in the Washington Post.

  1. Since the detractors of the Woman's March called us unpatriotic, I suggest thinking caps in the colors red, white, and blue.
As you know, I can't stray far from the Internet these days, or the national news on TV or radio. It is a bombardment of abominable action coming out of the WH. I have to be informed and activated for as long as there is a need, and/or as long as I can take it.

    1. I do wonder how long I can keep this up but I'm so afraid apathy will begin to set in, and then we'll be cooked. There are a lot of groups trying to motivate Democrats and I want to keep up with those and encourage them. I'm hopeful when Obama gets back off vacation things are going to get easier. I want to see some results of organization. I would be willing to work the phone banks for other states but I want some training, and I want it to be good training. Texas is a huge state and the Democratic Party there is on life support. I'd make calls to Texas. It will take a lot of people volunteering to make change in Texas. We must not give up.

  2. I get the gray... gray matter and all that. I like the way the hat in the photo looks, but I think it would be time consuming. I'm not a knitter, but it looks difficult to me

    1. It would be time consuming and too difficult for beginning knitters.

  3. The pussycat hat was easy and quick. That hat would be neither. I can't see knitters jump aboard that train. But it did make me laugh out loud. Maybe store bought cord sewn on caps would work?

As for the news, I feel that I have to lay witness to what is happening in our country. I don't want to find ourselves in a war---civil or world---and be sorry I didn't do all I could to voice my concerned when it might make a difference. I really resent that #45 is causing me to give money to various causes that are working to stop him but if we blink it might be too late.

    1. Jean, I'm with you trying to decide where to give money. I thought about ACLU then read they've gotten almost 20 million since Friday. Their normal donations run 3-4 million a year so I decided I needed to give my money to another organization, but which one? When it's time for the 2018 election I will give outside my state and district since I live in a blue state. I will definitely give to the campaign of the Democrat opposing Darrell Issa in California's and will give to the Democrat opposing Ted Cruz in Texas. If I can get some training I would consider doing phone bank work to oppose Ted Cruz.

    2. I made the same decision about the ACLU for the same reasons.

    3. Just heard on the news that ACLU donations are up to 24 million at last tally.

  4. I like the title of your post. I think most things Trump does are going to cause enormous problems. Yes, one of these days something will blow.

    1. Things just can't keep going at this pace. I do seriously wonder if his female press person is about to go off the rails. She was more strange than usual today, totally unprofessional. I don't see how this can keep from going into a crisis very soon. All this immigrant ban is now going to have to work its way through the courts to the Supreme Court. It's just constant. The positive is the enormous energy in the country to oppose this administration. Tonight he's Tweeting against two of the most powerful senators in his own party. Crazy.

  5. I think the thinking cap is really neat. And I really miss A Prairie Home Companion.

    1. I like that Thinking Cap too but it's far too complicated to expect masses to knit it. Yep, we realize we're getting old when our favorite programs begin retiring.

  6. Some of these protests are calling me to participate. I never thought I'd be saying that, but if ever there was a need....

    1. I am totally with you. Never did I expect a march to call out to me., never. I've also said recently I would be willing to do phone bank work to Texas to help defeat Ted Cruz in 2018. With my strong accent I figure Texas is about the only state I wouldn't quickly be identified as an outsider callin in. I do detest Ted Cruz. However, that said, I'm only willing to make calls if I can get some good training, and I do mean good professional training. I live in one of only six states in the country that has both a Democrat governor and Democrat held legislature. It is so sweet to live in such an environment.

  7. I am going to try to make the scientists' march in D.C. but that hat looks a little complicated for me.
