Housekeeping and Protesting

It was crisis time at our house this morning. I haven't done a lot of housework since the election and almost nothing since the inauguration. This morning we had a choice, clean up or move out. I decided it was easier to clean up.  Living in 1,125 sq ft of space, if both of us work at it, it takes maybe one hour to clean house.

We have a wonderful light weight cordless vacuum. I kicked off the morning by vacuuming my bath, bedroom, the kitchen, and half the living room. Bob met me and finished the living room, moving on then to his bedroom. While he finished vacuuming I mopped my bathroom and the kitchen. He finished by mopping his bathroom. Wheeee, it's done! Less than an hour!

Well not exactly, there's that matter of cleaning the bathrooms and dusting. I'd much rather clean a bathroom than dust. I have the duster laid out to remind me and will make an effort to complete that task when I finish here, if I'm not distracted. (I feel a distraction coming on.)

Daughter and I missed the Women's March and now we're sorry. A little late we're each knitting a  'pussyhat,' knowing there'll probably never be a chance to use them. I'm now calling mine a 'protesthat.' Every stitch I knit is a protest against the actions of our current President.  I realize that's not going to do anybody any good so, while I'm knitting, I'm thinking about actions I can take to let Congress know this situation in Washington is not acceptable. I refuse to normalize the actions of this White House.

Have you wondered if contacting your Senator and Representative makes a difference? The answer is in this Washington Post article on repealing Obamacare. I really like this article. I urge you to read it.

I'm now seeing senators saying their phone systems cannot handle the volume of calls they're receiving and suggesting constituents not give up but switch to email if they're unable to get their calls answered.

Letters are the least effective method, with phone calls being the most effective and then emails. Guess I''ll start emailing. We can all do that. It's also suggested you contact their offices in their home states and districts as that's more effective than contacting Washington. There's also a better chance of getting your call answered.

In his last interview from the White House, Former President Obama mentioned Jason Kander as a possibility for a 2020 presidential candidate. The Washington Post has published an article written by Jason on the topic of voter fraud. You might find it interesting.

  1. My daughter and most of the young ladies from the school where she teaches, marched in the woman's march. They didn't wear special hats though. They marched in the one that was held yesterday.

    1. I believe yesterday's march was a prolife march that 's held yearly.

    2. It is held yearly, Linda, and in many cities around the country. Where I live they usually draw around 100.

I found the hot pink yarn today and have offered to make a hat for several people, who all took me up on it. We think there will be another opportunity to march. If not, at least it's making me feel good to knit them.

      Thanks for the links.

    3. The 'March for Science' is now trying to come up with a 'Thinking Cap' for knitters for that march. Will be interested to see what they come up with.

  2. It's Saturday afternoon and I just turned on the local NBC News. The coverage is all about the ban on immigration. This action is getting the most blow back yet. Several Trump actions were rescinded already this week. Pressure works on Trump. We need to keep the pressure on him in any way we can.
The Women's March in Seattle energized me and gave me the impetus to act out. So far this week I have called or written letters or emailed and/or linked actions to Facebook to remind others to also follow through. I know you are taking action too. WE must keep it up.

    1. I'm having trouble using restraint. Part of me wants to strangle Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell but we're only one week into this administration. I guess the wheels of democracy turn slowly. It's hard to keep my focus on motivating Democrats rather than fighting Trump's actions. I feel like I have to do both but it's emotionally and physically draining.

  3. I too hate to dust. I need to do that now, but I'm waiting for another week. Terry vacuums the entire house a couple of times a week (we have cats), I do the laundry. I cook, Terry cleans up afterwards. The backyard is my responsibility, Terry does the front yard. He also takes care of the litter box for which I am most grateful.

    1. Sounds like you have a pretty fair system. It's so unchallenging to do housework. I can always think of things more intellectually challenging. I had no idea, until we no longer had a pet, what a huge difference that makes in housekeeping.

  4. My wife hates dusting and cleaning too. so I get to do the job! Yes, the pressure has to be kept up on politicians. A third party is still needed. the bums have to be thrown out.

    1. Your wife is smart. I have no idea what legal actions are available to deal with this president. I fear he's going to do a lot of damage to the country before anyone can get a handle on him. Republicans don't appear eager to take on the task.

  5. Maybe that's one reason I love being in our little camper......doesn't take but a few minutes to clean the whole thing. At home I seem to work all day long!

    1. It makes a huge difference. Also not having a pet. I was shocked at the difference pet hair made.

  6. Vacuuming is my least favorite household chore. I don't mind toilets, laundry, dusting or doing dishes. Thankfully, H does the vacuuming most of the time. I love having a smaller house. If we're both working at it, it doesn't take long.

Trump is energizing the Democrats. Enjoying the articles you post links to.

  7. You are so right about pet hair. At least it keeps one on top of things or be buried.
I have all the email address all ready. That is my favorite weapon. Glad to know it has some effect.

  8. Oh brother. I wonder how I can have an e-mail to send each day with just three clicks -- both Senators and our Representative.
