Yikes The Holidays Are Coming

This morning I looked at my calendar and realized it's less than a week until daughter will be arriving for Thanksgiving. I need to get busy. Also received Christmas list from 14 year old grandson. That took only a few minutes to order. All stuff that's totally foreign to me.

This morning reading TGB I read that the Oxford Dictionaries announced the international "word of the year." It's a hyphenated word this time, "post-truth," an adjective. The official definition as it will appear in the dictionaries:

""Relating to or denoting circumstances in which objective facts are less influential in shaping public opinion than appeals to emotion and personal belief.""

You can read about why it was chosen at the Oxford Dictionaries website."

It makes me sad to think we need such a word added to our dictionaries.

I think this is a good time for me to take a break and clear the cobwebs from my brain. I'll still be around commenting on your blogs and will see you again after the holidays.

  1. Stephen Colbert did a funny segment on the word "post-truth" and how Oxford stole that definition from his "truthiness" word invention last year. It is sad that the practice of not believing real facts actually has a name now!

  4. "post-truth" is a very worrisome phenomenon.
I'm at "yikes" too over the sudden arrival of the holidays.

  5. Ha! The word of the year. I've done posts on new words before. It's always interesting. I hate that this new word is so appropriate for our times, but here we are.

Don't you love being able to click, click, click and be done with a Christmas list? My D-I-L texted a list for my three grands, and poof, it was all done. I still need stocking stuffers, but the pressure is off.

Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Best wishes to you and your family.

  8. I hardly can believe that Thanksgiving is here already. I'm so glad that Bob's health is good, and that you'll have family with you two to celebrate. Enjoy it all -- and put your own feet up from time to time!
