Get Involved

I am totally amazed at how much raw anger and emotion is still out there over the election. I've certainly done my share of hand wringing. Our two political parties failed to stop the hostile take-over of America's political system so we now have two failed political parties, and a rogue in the White House. Taking down the rogue is above my pay scale. I have every confidence people much smarter than me are at work on that task at this very moment. Everything takes time. He's not even been sworn into office.

I do believe I can perhaps help in restoring and reforming one of the political parties. That is where I plan to focus my attention. I encourage you to read Five Reasons For Liberals to Have Hope.

Next I encourage you to read Obama Tells His Supporters, Stop Moping; Says he'll Return to Community Organizing.

That's a start. Now, if you're looking at Huffington Post, stop. Overnight they became the liberals' FOX. Disgusting.

I've seen messages encouraging people to buy a subscription to The New York Times as a way to support them in standing against Donald Trump. He is out for the NYT with a vengeance that is likely to get worse. I subscribe from time to time so maybe it's time for me to do that again. I only subscribe to the digital which is quite reasonable.

I am also going to subscribe again to the digital Washington Post.

Apathy is always my biggest fear for Democrats. I'm pleased to see Democrats passionate once again. We absolutely must not 'normalize' this election. There's good anger and there's bad anger. Righteous anger is what we need to keep alive.

Remember it is not our job or our place to tell Republicans how to run their party. We have enough to keep us busy dealing with Democrats that are prone to napping.

I have more to say.

  1. I love this blog entry and the links to the first two articles. I'm relieved that the Obama's will be involved in community activism to help point the way to meaningful ways to get involved. I, too, plan to subscribe to The New York Times for the very reason you did. I'm not down on Huffington...yet but I've always taken them with a grain of salt.

I just heard on the news that Hillary got more votes than any man ever elected president with the exception of Obama...and they are still counting! Wow! I hope DT sees that.

    1. These are strange times. I don't want Trump's undoing now. Leave him in there until he destroys all this ugly right wing stuff. I want them to be begging for someone to remove him from office, or be so sick of him a moderate candidate will look good to them. I've had it with all this extremism. We're this far along so let's hang on and see if we can't break the back on this ugly mean stuff.

    2. I think that will happen, Linda, before the mid-term elections.

  2. I read the many of the NYT editorials, and find them very informative.
I will stay informed, but right now I'm still trying to restore some balance in my life.

    1. Restoring balance is a good thing. That's a good place for you to be right now.

  3. I used to subscribe to the Washington Post, but that's been a while. This transition team is looking overwhelmed and confused. I'll check out those links. Thanks.

    1. Switching from paper to digital for newspapers has been a real challenge for me but I continue to try. We need to support good journalism because it's going to be under attack with this administration.

  4. Righteous anger is what we need to keep alive. This was just what I needed to hear. When my rose colored glasses get knocked off as they sometimes do (reaction to Vietnam protests, ERA defeat, the recent election) I struggle with anger as it too often leads to depression for me. Righteous anger puts it in a clearer light.
Thanks for the two articles and I was planning to subscribe online to the NYT, so thanks for that little nudge as well.

    1. Anger is destructive and reactive. Righteous anger is productive, leading to well thought out action and positive results. Without righteous anger people settle into apathy.

  5. OMG. Did you read the comments to the Obama article? Literally knocked my breath out of my chest.

    1. Unfortunately angry people are the first to comment. Their comments are so vile the positive people back off. I leave online positive reviews every time I can. It's human nature if someone is unhappy they write negative reviews and comments. If they're happy, not a peep.

  6. For now I am catching my breath and watching as his whole system just may implode with out our doing anything. Then if needed, I will go to work.

    1. Yes, this is a pause period. We need some time to process. After the first of the year I will begin watching Congress closely. I don't think the Democratic National Committee elects new officers until March. By then Obama will again be a private citizen and will have had his vacation with Michelle. I'll be watching to see what's developing about refreshing and reforming the Democratic Party.
