Fragrances, Manicures and Pedicures

I received this photo from our daughter in Texas.  Her first pedicure of the season.

There was a time in my life when I wore nail polish all the time but not anymore. I seldom wear sandals so a pedicure isn't all that necessary. Besides, I don't like the thought of someone handling my feet. I am diligent in taking care of my feet so they're already soft, and I can still get to my feet if I should decide to polish my toenails.  We'll see how I feel about it as summer approaches but so far I'm thinking probably not.

Same thing with manicures. Wore nail polish year in and year out for many years. Sometimes I think about painting my fingernails but usually try to sit down quickly and let that thought pass me by.

I stopped wearing fragrances many years ago. It seemed the best choice in the workplace as people sometimes have allergies to fragrances.  After I retired I bought this bottle but you can see I quickly tired of that idea.  How long is a bottle good?  This bottle is probably ten years old.

I seem to like things plain and simple these days. What to you think about these things?

  1. I do polish my nails but in a natural light pink color. I have good nails. They grow long and strong without extra care so I play them up. No body really sees them but me but I like them so it is worth the little bit of time I spend on them. I would like to get my toes done but I am too cheap. I have a little bit of perfume left from my working days. Some days I apply it just for the heck of it. No one knows but me and Buddy. Its a funny thing about whether you keep doing the beauty things we did when we worked. I always considered looking nice as being part of what they expected and paid for. A nice hair cut, nice but not terribly expensive clothes, etc. Now its a cheap cut and a couple of new t-shirts and I'm ready .

  2. That looks so pretty. I never used nail polish on my toes because, I don't want anyone to look at my ugly toes. And besides, I'm cheap too.

Sigh... I like smelling the fragrances, but Art doesn't like smells on me... so that's out. Ah well...

  3. I quit wearing fragrances for the same reason. Now most things I have are fragrance free except for the lavender hand lotion I put on at bedtime.
I have bunions and toenail fungus and my pedicures are done by the podiatrist who painfully digs out ingrown toenails. So no, no polish. And no finger nail polish either. Gardeners are happy to have clean, short nails.
    I like simple.

  4. Now days knowing how fragrances offend so many--even causing illness--I can only wear them mowing the yard. And yes I do wear them then. I love them--just wish everyone did.

  5. The older I get, the more I like plain and simple. I'm in the midst of spring cleaning, and just the other day, as I was cleaning the hutch cabinet, I packed up my really good china and put it in storage. I doubt I'll ever use it again. I put my pottery pieces in its place. I used to love collecting china when we traveled to England; now it's just so much clutter. As for my nails, I paint them a couple of times a year. My good friend goes for a manicure every two weeks. She drives 50 miles round trip for it. I couldn't be bothered. I still use fragrances, but I've never used them heavily.

  6. I've pretty much been plain and simple my whole life. I do love fragrances, my favorite being Estee, but rarely wear it. The bottle I have is probably ten years old too. Can't even remember the last time I polished my nails.

  7. I shake too much to polish, so I don't. DH goes for manicure and pedicures, I never have. Some fragrances change with age, also the smell will change with your health, medications, etc.

  8. I wear fragrance every single day! And earrings! Even if I stay in my pajamas and look like a bag lady - I smell good!!!
I don't do many manicures. I work with my hands and they are really really old looking!!! I do get pedicures every other month and then I do them myself on the alternate ones.
AND I never leave home without make up!!! UNLESS I wear a hat and sunglasses!!!!
