Books and Socks

I'm a knitter but these days I only knit socks.  I used to read a lot but about two years ago I switched to audible books to accommodate my sock knitting.  I've just finished this pair and already have another pair on the needles.

This afternoon I listened to Conscience of a Conservative. I know, I know, you think I'm a glutton for punishment but listening was a lot better than reading it.  It's a short little book, about 125 pages and only took 2.5 hours to listen to it.

The book was written in 1960, the year I graduated from high school. I was surprised to learn it was actually ghostwritten by L. Brent Bozell, Jr., brother-in-law of William F. Buckley.

Given Republicans don't seem to know which way is up this election cycle I thought I'd go back in history to see if I could figure out what went wrong.

How do you feel about audible books?

  1. I've tried several audible books. I didn't care for them, it felt too slow. I enjoy radio plays, so I'm not sure what's going on.

  2. Maybe audible books is the answer for me. I think I've listened to only one, about fifteen years ago. You know how much I love to knit. As a result, I find little time for reading books, and this bothers me. I've been reading "All the Light We Cannot See" for weeks. It's an excellent novel, but I've read it in bits and pieces for wY too long. An audio book would have been the answer.

  3. I love audio books! Especially so before I retired and was in the car a lot driving to and from work. Lots of evenings I would pull into the driveway after my drive home and be so wrapped up in my book that I would hate to come inside.

  4. Haven't gotten into audio books. My mind tends to drift when I try. Sometimes I will switch my kindle from text to talk but I start cracking up at the robotic voice and end up reading along anyway.

  6. I listened to audio books when we homeschooled! We always had a book playing in the car when we were out and about back then. I listened to lots of books back when I was driving back and forth to Houston during Amber's quad pregnancy. Now I have Louis D and he can't stay quiet so I quit! If I ever have alone time again.....but I'm in no hurry to be alone.
